Extremists' social/ constructive engagement
Many of the young persons affiliated with violent-extremist organisations are also inspired by motives of social commitment. They get involved in matters of the local municipality and community – which is always conceived of as a community of like-minded persons. In this way they sometimes contribute remarkably towards aiding with local concerns and taking care of those in need. These prosocial motives are always in an unclear and conflicting juxtaposition to the impulses of aggressive exclusion and hostility towards certain social groups. Nevertheless this fundamental will for community spirit may represent a certain potential on which prevention and rehabilitation work can build.
Below are narrative passages, in which prosocial attitudes and community spirit are expressed.
