Entry opportunities
Whenever young persons turn towards violent-extremist lifestyles and organisations, it is possible to determine retrospectively that “opportunity structures” existed in their immediate social vicinity. Such an opportunity may have been an important reference person, who opens an path towards extremism, or a local subculture, peer group or an extremist organisation, which is tolerated by the social surroundings or is active underground.
